This can be a very tough call. Nevertheless there are ways to make it quite easy for you:
1. Always be calm and polite. When you're firing a client, there's no need for you to shout. You can still be firm with your decision but pleasant.
2. It may seem silly and too cumbersome but you can write down what you need to say. This way you can get straight to the point. If may not be exactly the same when you're faced with the client, but practice what you're going to say.
3. Let go of the revenues. Money can always come if you just work hard. So you don't necessarily have to hold on to clients who are basically jerks. Instead concentrate on the minimized stress and other opportunities you can venture into. Remember also the time you can save? Problematic clients can often eat up most of your time and require special attention. Letting them go can help you facilitate the demands of the more deserving ones.
4. Be clear with your reasons. It's not enough that you fire them anytime. Your decision should be backed up with justifications. You can present them with facts and figures. Do not leave them in the dark. Somehow, you owe a part of the success of the business with them. If you can meet them personally, the better.
