How Much Capital Do You Need to Set Up a Home-Based Business?
Filed in archive financing on August 28, 2007
Running a home-based business can be fun if you have all the skills and manpower, as well as the creativity to produce the services and products that you hope to offer. However, as with all other businesses, any home-based business begins with money and thrives on cash flow. You may have all the skill and creativity in the world, but you need someone to invest in you in order to get your business going.
So how much capital do you need to set up your own home-based business? The simple answer is: it depends. What state are you living in? Do you have to pay for a business license? Are you going to operate out of your home, or will you simply produce a few goods there but take them to an office across town? Will you need computers, paper, printers, or other office supplies? Should you have a contingency fund to take care of emergency expenses?
These questions should be enough to give you a headache, and they only scrape the surface of the basics in running a home business. Many home businesses fail because of lack of capital, and more so because they did not have enough funds to see them through an emergency situation, such as sudden bulk orders from clients, as well as an unanticipated lack of raw materials for your end products.
