Filed in archive business ideas by noel on September 26, 2007

Believe it or not, a framing service business may not always be the first choice for people who want to go into home-based business, which is rather strange, considering the opportunities. Think about this: in an ordinary house, there are four walls. Imagine filling that house with frames. Now, imagine how many houses there are in your area and how many walls you can possibly service as a framer. Still not convinced? Here are some things you might want to know about a home-based framing service business:
Tools and equipment you need
If framing is a hobby of yours, you probably already have the basic tools and equipment you'll need to start your own framing service from home. And you should. If you plan to go into the framing business, you might as well know what you're doing.
For one, you will have to face clients yourself. When you discuss options and special treatments for a particular project, your client wants to know that they are speaking with a knowledgeable person. Second, the right knowledge will help you handle your resources well, preventing unnecessary loss and wastage in terms of materials.
Some of the basic tools and equipment you'll need include:
- mat cutters
- matboards and backing papers
- measuring tools (rulers, measuring tape, corner markers, etc.)
- clamps
- moulders
- ready made frames
- glass, frame points, hanging and wire hardware and foam cores
- sanding equipment and supplies
- color charts
- adhesives, cleaners and solvents
- nailers, spacers, embellishments and accessories
