When you do get that meeting with the big boss, show how your home-based bill collector business can help them solve their billing problems. For instance, instead of spending thousands of dollars mailing people from far, far away, they can send you the amounts via email. You can then print the bills of the people in your coverage area and give them the bills yourself. If you can show the company that they actually save money by using your bill collecting services, then you can get hired quickly.
You will invest in your own mailing, software, and people, so the return on your investment might be slow if you are starting off with only one or two companies to work for.
However, if you allow the business to grow, and if you take on at least four companies in your coverage area, you can expect faster returns on your investment, perhaps within the first two years of your operations. If you work for insurance companies or credit card companies, the return on investment may be slower, as such companies have a relatively merciful grace period compared with electricity and water providers.
To get more clients, network! Visit company conventions, talk to friends who are part of companies that demand bill payments, and keep making those visits to the big bosses. The only way you can let your company grow is to have more clients. In order to let your home business prosper, however, you need to be merciful toward the people from whom you collect bills. Be as kind as you can, but mean business when you collect your bills. If you can take care of your personal life and home business at the same time, then you certainly have it made.
