Market research is not only about asking your market questions. It involves knowing exactly who your market is. Completely outline your target demographic by looking at gender, age, even likes and dislikes, and couple the results of your survey of your target demographic by doing research online. For instance, if you are targeting the teen market in your neighborhood, then do research on what the teen market in general likes. Do this by visiting popular teen blogs, news sites, or general web sites. You can ask what sites are popular with teens when you make your teen survey.

Not all the market research results you will receive will be encouraging. Not everyone in your neighborhood will want another catering service, not all the teens in your town will care about math and English tutorials, and not all the parents in your city will need babysitters for their toddlers. Handle all the results with a positive attitude, and see how you can still have a successful home business even with the market research results that you have. If this is already your third or fourth market research, and you are facing discouraging feedback about your current line up of products and services, take the feedback as constructive criticism and make improvements where they are required.

Always be prepared to receive criticism or unexpected answers in your market research surveylinks. Your market can have important things to say about the business that you plan to put up, so listen to that same market. You might also want to design your survey so that the people who answer it can give their views more openly. Provide multiple choice answers, but always leave spaces where survey respondents can write about what they truly think and feel.

When you get the results back, take your time to thank the respondent by giving him or her a complementary product or service, or by offering the respondent a small gift.

Market research is not only about knowing about your market, but giving it a first glimpse into your home business. Start your marketing by showing how caring you can be, and how good future customers can be rewarded.

Market research, with the right questions in well-designed surveys, is easy to plan out but difficult to conduct and analyze. You may want to hire three or four people to help you design the survey, administer it, and keep in touch with the respondents. You might also want to hire more people to analyze the survey results, and to coordinate with
you so that you can produce the best home business from the results of your successful market research.
