Virtual Assistants are generally business owners who help others arrange their work and even home schedules. A lot of people in most businesses hire secretaries and personal assistants to help them stay organized. Virtual assistants do pretty much the same thing, but have hundreds of clients to keep track of. This isn't as hard as it sounds; with a decent organizer program a VA can track and sort the schedules of multiple clients easily. The only tools needed to get started as a VA are a decent schedule organizer program and a means of contacting clients to remind them of their schedules, like an IP (internet phone) and a headset. There are also quite a few online companies that actually hire and train pools of VAs, and this is a great way to start in this business because these companies will find clients for you.
Blogging and web content writing is another common means of money making this year. This requires almost no external peripherals beyond your computer, making it a favorite online business for a lot of people. Basically, blogs started out as online diaries, and were just meant to be a free means for people to write about their lives and let others comment on their entries. However, blogs evolved and soon became a means of virtual advertising for some companies, who paid people who ran blogs to make entries promoting their product informally. This further evolved into people's blogs having paid links to other websites, hosting ad banners, and even paid video advertisements or online video tutorials thanks to high speed internet connections capable of handling real time video streaming. There are many possible avenues for making money through blogs, and the best part is it requires no capital.
Lastly, Web Design is another popular computer-based home business this 2007. This requires some external equipment depending on how extensive you want your services to be. With the increasing number of online businesses today, web designers are in demand because they're the virtual business equivalent of people who make the building and office that online businesses operate in. This requires more skill and training than either VA or blogging, but the payoff is also higher. Necessary skills include graphics design, writing, and front end programming. Naturally being creative is also a must for this type of home business. If you want to try this business out but don't have the needed skills, don't worry. There are dozens of online companies that offer self-training programs for web designers and web hosters. Likewise, there are packaged programs you can purchase online that are made to provide you with all the online tools you'll need to operate as a web designer. As for peripherals, that's entirely up to you. Some web designers choose to buy things like digital scanners, for example, if they're sketch artists who may want to draw a logo manually then scan it in for a client's website.
