Practical Design Tips on How to Maximize a Small-Spaced Home Office
Filed in archive home office tools on November 27, 2007
It's not the space that's the problem - it's what you do with it. Keep this in mind when designing a small space home office. Don't let the size disappoint you because there are simple and practical ways you can use to make sure your small home office space can pack a wallop in terms of function. Here's how:
Use small furniture.
Avoid bulky, heavy stuff. These will eat up more of your already small home office space. Look for sleek, slim, modern and ergonomically designed desks, chairs and drawers. Consider multi-purpose furniture, such as desks that function as drawers and storage space at the same time.
If you prefer, have your shelves and desk fabricated. Pick one of those strong plyboards at least ¾" thick. Choose a finish you like and have someone build a multi-purpose work space and storage for your small home office area.
Use the wall.
When people think of designing a small space home office, they tend to forget the walls. This is a mistake. Walls can be excellent space savers.
Consider building shelves from floor to ceiling. Next, incorporate a desk where you can put your computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine, books and supplies. That way, you can work at your home office desk with everything else within easy reach.
