Nowadays, with the advancement of protective measures instituted legitimately by the Data Protection Act, data theft is significantly reduced, if not completely eradicated.
However, with the power disruption incidences from recent disasters in the country like the 9-11 terror attack and the series of catastrophic hurricanes, especially in the Gulf Coast, businesses have uncovered major problems arising from lost data within their computer systems.
A research commissioned by the University of Texas has found that about 43% of all types of businesses that experienced data loss from power outages had been unsuccessful in recovering lost data. Unfortunately, the data lost are so significant that in the average, half of those businesses shut down within two years.
The National Data Awareness Project
Recently, a group of business advocates including information technology managers, data storage firms, professional development organizations and computer products distributors converged to develop and launch an education campaign that is aimed at informing businesses the basics about data storage and alternatives.
The project will educate conventional and online businesses about the risks and threats for the data and the recommended measures that would provide solution and prevention for such losses.
Online backup systems are also being rolled up to provide businesses the much-needed measures and alternatives for data protection and storage.
If you are running a business, it is imperative that you immediately embark on such initiatives. The costs would indeed be not more than the potential losses that you can incur from losing vital business data.
