Soundview Coworking: Freelancers' Hub
Filed in archive business tips on July 19, 2007
Feeling isolated is not something new with freelancers and people who are running their one-man home based businesses. A Stamford business club called Soundview Coworking has just solved that problem.
Soundview Coworking, a new Stamford business club, promotes quiet workspace and collaborative business opportunities with a skyview of Stamford. The club currently hosts about 12 members.
Nested inside The Soundview Club on the 16th floor of the Stamford Marriott, the club's soft armchairs and wireless Internet access render it a prime space for quiet study. The facility also contains a computer, fax and copier.
Jeff Kubarych, who operates the Community Bulletin Board Web site [www.communitybb.com], thought up the idea after catching wind of similar coworking clubs in San Francisco and Philadelphia.
He said Web-based companies spawned a generation of businessmen, like himself, who work at home and feel trapped at times. Starbucks and the local library provide alternative work spaces but both lack the quiet and the amenities.
"The idea was really born out of necessity," he said. "I just needed to get out of the house and talk to other freelancers or entrepreneurs."
Kubarych said the typical Soundview Coworking client is a freelance worker, small business owner or road warrior in need of a satellite work base.
