Be Frugal Not Only for the Rainy Days
Learn to be frugal. Save on electricity by insulating your home office and keeping air conditioners from running for too long. Keep your ceilings high to keep the warm air out. A cool office can lead to better work output, and better profits for you. All you need to do is acquire safety habits, such as switching off appliances that are not in use, closing windows to keep cold air in, or opening windows in the summer and switching off air conditioners to let the hot air out.
Exercise Safety Precautions
Better to be safe than sorry. Theft is the largest problem of both home and online businesses. Always lock your doors and know exactly how many duplicate as them. You can have a logbook of any borrowing of keys so that you know exactly who uses the office keys and when. Invest in website security software so you can protect your clients' information.
Online Goodness
Use the Internet sparingly. Although the Internet is a valuable tool, it can be abused by office workers when you are not looking. Limit Internet connections and disconnect redundant connections that may be costing you bandwidth. Online, this can be translated as giving your clients leeway to contact you, but not the chance to abuse you. If you have no moderators on an online forum, do not host one. Do not provide online guest books or tag boards, as these can be invaded by robots and spammers that can destroy your site.
Backup Frequently
There is no single good software for backup, so you simply need to search for software that meets your immediate backup needs. Back your files up to disks at least once a month in order to not only free space on your computer, but to have reserve copies of important documents that might be lost if your website or computer is hacked. Backing up files can also protect technology important to your home business. Keep all your backup compact disks in a secure place, and change your computer passwords regularly. These can keep hackers or disrespectful employees from stealing your technology.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
Have a list of contacts that can help you with your various online or home business problems. Always have emergency numbers on hand, or on speed dial.
Consult the Department of Energy's website for more tips on how you can keep your home office disaster-proof and energy saving. Keep on doing research, and find groups online with the same interests and aims as yours. In greater numbers, you are stronger, and you can find more ideas on how to disaster-proof your business.

Excellent article, something that can really help to disaster-proof your business, but remember, there's no safeguard that can protect your business 100 percent of the time. The key is to be proactive rather than reactive.
