Tip #3 Don't Be Afraid of the Goliaths in the Industry
Granted, you're smaller and poorer than a church mouse compared to your biggest competitors. But that doesn't mean you should stop competing! You can still give them a run for your money if you focus on giving these things to your customers: products that are of admirable quality and competitively priced and excellent customer service.
Don't sacrifice quality for price, but don't overcharge your customers either. And always serve with a smile! A comforting smile, a gentle word here and there, and a pleasant demeanor don't cost a thing, but they will definitely make a difference to your customers. Who would want to buy from a fashionably impeccable but ultimately rude saleswoman? No one! Who would want to buy from an approachable and helpful saleswoman? Everyone! End of story.
Tip #4 Know When to Hire Additional Help
Yes, hiring employees will increase your business' operating costs, but consider the opportunities it will create if you do. Are you unable to expand, create newer and better products, or increase your market size simply because you're too busy doing everything yourself? If so, it's definitely time to have someone around to help you with the business.
Granted, the costs may make you have break-even profit for the first few months, but things are sure to pick up when you get your groove back and your business becomes better and more profitable simply because you have more time to concentrate on the more important aspects of the business.
If you have a home based scrapbooking business, for instance, and your key skills lie on creating scrapbook projects, hire someone to entertain customer inquiries and concerns then dedicate your time fully to what you do best. If you have a home based traveling agency and your expertise lies in getting clients to book trips, hire someone to handle the financial and technical side of the business as this will allow you more time to increase your customer base.

Home based business can never compete with big companies but that does not mean one should not go for it. The main thing about home based business is that it depends a lot on the person's communication and interpersonal skills. How effectively he/she can build up net work? How one deals with his customers? Does he listen to them attentively or just ignore them?

Right on the dot S.M. Medhi Hassan. I always feel home based business can compensate by giving a more personal service and being genuinely involved with the needs of the customers.
