Top Ten Best Things About Working From Home

They are a unique set of perks that goes with working out of your home. Today I decided to list my top ten (in no particular order).

1. Being able to do laundry in the middle of the day.
2. Naps.
3. Flexibility to take care of family.
4. Never being late in the morning.
5. Having a cat in my lap while I work.
6. No commute!
7. Getting to choose my work environment based on my mood.
8. Not having to take off work for repairmen or home deliveries.
9. Being able to work whenever I want to.
10. Being able to listen to my music/tv programs/podcasts while I work.

I'd add that my favorite one is not having to answer to a boss, but there are plenty of people who do have a boss and work from home, and vice versa, they are the boss but work in an office.

What I think all ten of these boil down to is being in charge of my schedule. I can take my time doing laundry in the middle of the day or get an hour nap in if I need it. This doesn't mean I work less. I probably work more and harder since I started working at home. I stay up until a project is finished, no matter the hour. I get up and go to meetings in the evening or Saturday mornings. But if my family needs me or I want to take a longer lunch break with a friend who's in town I can do that too.

It's the freedom of being able to choose how I spend every minute of my day that makes working at home the only option for me. I could never imagine going back.
