Strict rules introduced at Foothills Fall Festival at Maryville are preventing some businesses to take part in the event. Downtown business owner, Richard Clear, who has a booth set up outside his martial arts and health shop, was told by the City Fall Festival authorities that he cannot this year. Several businesses have been affected by these new strict rules and many of the downtown businesses have complained that the city is giving preference to out of town vendors over the city businesses.
The Foothills Fall Festival brings in at least 75,000 customers every year to Maryville. Event coordinator of the Fall Festival, Jane Groff defended the rules, saying that the regulations have been formed to support both local and out of town businesses equally, and that there is no discrimination.

Entrepreneurship can be a very good method to serve the people. This is exactly what was in the mind of inventor Stephen Katsaro when he decided to take his invention the entrepreneurship way.
Katsaro has come up with a solar-powered light bulb which he is planning to make available to the people of developing countries, via his model of for-profit entrepreneurship instead of the non-profit route. Katsaro has named his company Nokero, as in no kerosene, and he follows a social entrepreneurship model in order to bring light to a 1.6 billion people using his charge-by-day and run-by-night bulbs.
The developing world faces issues like potable water scarcity, inadequate food, unaffordable lighting, and Katsaro believes the social entrepreneurship model can help fix these issues in an inclusive manner.

Entrepreneurship Suffers During Recession

Entrepreneurship Suffers During Recession

Entrepreneurship has been the biggest loser in this period of recession and post recession. Many people who would have gone into entrepreneurship have been discouraged by the poor sales, tight credit and huge competition from other entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship is widely seen as the key to the recovery of the economy since two thirds of the new jobs are generated by these small businesses. According to the Kauffman Foundation, which provides support for entrepreneurship, small businesses are often seen to increase the job growth during the starting phase.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics has stated in a recent report on entrepreneurship that the number of new businesses that started in the financial year that ended on March 2010 was lower than any other year. The technology and web based economy are doing well with many new entrepreneurs emerging in the Silicon Valley but the basic economy is not in such a good condition. If this continues then entrepreneurship might take a backseat in many minds.
